The Summer School in Biomedical Research & Management is an educational activity that the WHBA has established on an annual basis. The aim of this activity is to provide knowledge given by top-notch experts on the most advanced medical and biosciences research areas to two groups of participants:
1. Graduate and undergraduate students of medical and biosciences background.
2. Post-doctoral researchers and physicians in training (residents and clinical fellows).
In addition, the Summer School in Biomedical Research & Management aims to familiarize the students with “actual life” situations that scientists from Academia or the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology industry deal with on daily basis.
The program is divided in two parts. The 1st part includes lectures about the most recent breakthroughs and current trends in several topics of basic and clinical medical research. The 2nd part focuses on aspects that pertain to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, such as drug development, clinical research and the establishment of a pharmaceutical company. Moreover, the schedule includes as a satellite event the 12th World Hellenic Biomedical Congress, which is taking place on May 23, 2014.
The scientific board of the Summer School in Biomedical Research & Management will select 40 students (undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate level) among applicants from Greece and abroad. Participants will be selected according to their academic record and potential to develop to prominent figures of Academia or pharmaceutical industry. The combination of participants from Greece and abroad aims to generate a bridge among prominent young trainees from several places in the world, as well as to facilitate the establishment of future international networks of excellence. The World Hellenic Biomedical Association in cooperation with generous donors will cover hotel expenses for selected participants as well as the transportation between Athens International Airport and location of the program for all participant students.
