​Eligibility  Applications
Evaluation

Eligible candidates need to:
  • Hold a medical degree or have successfully fulfilled all requirements for graduation (official certificate provided by the secretariat of the department is required).
  • Have graduated with a degree of at least 8.0/10 or ranked in the top-10% of their class (official statement by the department's secretariat).
  • Have demonstrated significant scholarly activity (participation in extracurricular seminars, educational activities, international exchange programs etc.). 
  • Have passed successfully of the United States Medical Licensing Exams. Although this is optional, it will be considered as a major credential of the application.
Each candidate will apply for 1 to 3 potential preceptors/positions. If a candidate has trouble in identifying an expert, whose research interests match his/hers, the applicant may contact the scientific board, which will explore alternative hosts within the association’s membership. The candidate will then apply for participation in the program via the regular application process.

Required application documents (all documents need to be in English)
  • Certified copy of the Medical Degree with a grade of at least 8.0/10 or official certificate stating the final grade and confirming that the applicant has successfully fulfilled all requirements for graduation in the near future (provided by the secretariat of the department)
  • Curriculum Vitae (up to 2 pages)
  • Personal Statement (up to 500 words) 
  • Transcript including grades for all medical courses
  • 2 recommendation letters (confidential) sent directly by the referees to the World Hellenic Biomedical Association.

Application Review Criteria 
  • Academic record of the applicant
  • Awards that indicate academic excellence
  • Original peer-review publications if any
  • Quality of the statement of purpose regarding future plans of the applicant, explanation of how the RTP-CEM serves career planning, and use of the English language
  • Successful passing of the United States Medical Licensing Exams is optional but will be considered as a major credential of the application.
  • Extracurricular activities that indicate outstanding service to the community or leadership skills 

Applicants should never contact the scientific board or reviewers regarding their applications. Discussing  an application or attempting to influence review outcome will constitute a conflict of interest in the review. Reviewers must notify the WHBA executive board if an applicant contacts them.

Restrictions
  • An applicant may submit only one application (for 1-3 available positions) per year.
  • A Fellow may hold only one fellowship at a time.
  • A Fellow must resign the fellowship and return the remaining amount if abandons the position for any reason.
  • A Fellow may not hold another award or fellowship concurrently. If the fellowship recipient receives an award of similar or lesser value during the training period must resign either completely or partially the "Stavros Niarchos Foundation RTP-CEM fellowship" for the equivalent amount that will be received by the other award.
  • The mentor may mentor no more than one funded fellow of the same category (clinical, basic science or translational) in one calendar year.

Evaluation & selection
The scientific board of the RTP-CEM will confirm eligibility of each applicant for participation. If 4 or more applications are submitted for one available position, a pre-selection committee will filter applications and will select the best 2 of them based on the review criteria listed above . The final selection committee will select the final candidate for each position and one alternative. Each candidate will rank order potential preceptors (up to 3) from most to least preferred. Accordingly, preceptors that will be selected by more than one candidates will rank order the candidates based on the evaluation process by the scientific board and interview of candidates by preceptors via video conference. The scientific board will perform matching according to ranking by both candidates and preceptors.
